The Tupolev Tu-117SM2 is the principle 'classic' heavy bomber of the modern Soviet Air Forces. It is a large, jet-powered, supersonic-capable combat aircraft with two cavernous bays capable of storing a variety of ammunition. In an age dominated by aircraft designed to operate at two or even three multiples of the speed of sound and scramjet-powered missiles with accelerations commonly reaching Mach 6.0, it is something of an anachronism - a large-capacity, high-altitude level bomber designed to rain wanton destruction down across a wide area from the clouds.
